Math, Math, Math

I just ran across this great post over at Consumerism Commentary: Math Anxiety Could Hurt Your Finances: 5 Ways to Get Over It

Sasha gives us the details of an article about how Math Anxiety is an actual disorder according to the APA and how it affects people and their finances.

I love her advice on ways to get over the anxiety. In my graduate course I'm teaching, I notice a lot of math anxiety. There are a lot of 30 something's and greater in there who have not had to do much math in their life and they are almost terrified of sitting in my Quantitative Analysis course.

It's easy to tell those with the biggest anxiety. They are the ones you don't hear from until the day before or the day of class that they are having difficulty with the homework. They are so scared of failing the class they put off even looking at it all week and then can't remember a thing we did last week.

My favorite piece of advice from Sasha is #2 - Start a Money Group. Wouldn't it be great if we could have a local support group to talk over financial stuff together and help each other make better decisions? Maybe a trip to Meetup is in order.
